Create useful annotated screenshots with ShareX
A helpful screenshot directs attention to a specific detail. A tight capture, one clear annotation and a check for private information usually communicate more than a full desktop covered in arrows.
Capture the part that explains the issue
Choose a region or window that includes the relevant control and enough context to identify it. Keep unrelated windows out of the image. If the task requires a scrolling capture, inspect the result for duplicated or missing sections before using it as evidence.
Annotate with restraint
- Use a rectangle or arrow to point to the exact control.
- Add a short label that explains what the reader should notice.
- Use numbered steps when the order matters.
- Check the image at the size it will actually appear in a ticket or article.
Do not rely on a faint blur to hide sensitive text. Use a deliberate redaction method and inspect the saved image.
Understand after-capture tasks
ShareX can chain actions after a capture, including saving, copying and uploading. Review the configured destination before using an automated sharing workflow. For a private report, a local save may be the right first step. Open the final saved file and confirm the annotations and any redactions are present.
