Choose raster, vector or 3D for your next visual
The right graphics tool depends on what you want to make. A photo edit, an icon and a rendered scene need different kinds of workspace.
Photos and layered images
GIMP is a practical choice for editing pixels, retouching photos and combining layers.
Scalable artwork
Inkscape edits vector graphics. Use SVG paths for illustrations and diagrams that need to remain sharp at different sizes.
Three-dimensional scenes
Blender handles modelling, animation and rendering. It requires a different learning path, so begin with a small scene and consult the official manual.
Plan the hand-off
Keep the native working document for each application and export a separate delivery file. A PNG may be convenient for a presentation but cannot replace a layered image master. An SVG may remain scalable but can depend on fonts or external images. Test the final file in its intended destination and check its dimensions, background and legibility. Choose the smallest set of applications that can produce the required result.
